Last post for the 2011-2012 school year

Its been awhile....
Well my best laid plan was to blog at least monthly...I guess as a teacher I didn't stick to that plan....so here is the last blog for the 2011-2012 year....

My class has had a great second semester...all of the kids had either an iPod or iPad at their fingertips to work on lessons throughout the day...It has been a great learning experience for me to learn from the students....I am glad to pass them on to 3rd grade...but sad to see them go....What a year this has been...Thank you for the great memories.

HUGO

The second graders read a book called The Invention of Hugo Cabaret as a read aloud.  We then went to the movie Hugo at the McPherson Theater.

December

Saint Lucia Festival-December 13
It is hard to believe that December has come and gone.  The students were busy learning about different cultures around the world.  We learned about The Netherlands, Sweden, Mexico, Africa, India, and the United States.

Heart Strings

Once again we are going to be doing a service project for Children's Mercy Hospital.   The students have been very busy working on the strings to sell to the students and staff starting on Jan. 17.  The newspaper came and did an article on us.  Check it out!!!!

Fall Fun Centers

The students went to four different centers working on measuring how tall they are, estimating length with candy corns, following directions to create a glyph,  and decorating a pumpkin.

Harriett's Halloween Candy

On Wednesday Oct. 26 we joined Mrs. Myers class to read the story Harriett's Halloween Candy.  The students then worked in groups to sort the candy,  tell the attributes of the candy, and find the total of their bags.
